Buffy stood watching him for several minutes before gathering the courage to speak, hoping her voice wouldn't be as shaky as she felt.
"Hello Giles."
He started at her voice and sat up straight, masking his features with a welcoming smile.
"Buffy, I.is something the matter?"
She indicated the space on the bench next to him. "May I?"
His brows drew together in curiosity, as he indicated permission with a tilt of his head.
Both sat, starring forward, not speaking for several minutes. Buffy could feel the tenseness in him but simply didn't know where to begin.
She glanced at his hands which were gripping the bench tightly on either side of him. She gently reached for the hand closest to her and felt him shudder at her touch.
She laced her fingers through his and looked up to find him regarding her uncertainly.
She gently touched his face with her other hand as if to emphasise her words.
"I am so sorry about earlier Giles. I had no right to speak to you that way. None at all."
He took a deep breath, drew her hand down and gazed forward again.
"I.It's perfectly alright. I would have simply had the package delivered to the store but Anya sometimes.ah that doesn't really matter I suppose. I didn't mean to cause you to miss an opportunity to be.well to enjoy an afternoon with a.y-young gentleman. I understand. Really.I do."
He started to stand but she tightened her grip and held him still. "Buffy? What.?"
Her eyes held his as she leaned forward, slowly trailing her hand up his lean strong body until she cupped the back of his head and drew him down.
Her lips were warm against his cheek as she whispered, "No. You don't understand." She gently touched her lips to his temple, then his forehead. She could feel his breath quicken and his fingers tightened around hers.
She drew back, her hand brushing stray locks of hair back from his forehead.
He could only stare at her in shock; not at all comprehending what was happening. His mind had completely shut down. He couldn't even move.
Then she was smiling at him and he felt his heart miss several beats.
Not able to stand it anymore, he tore his gaze from hers, looking instead at the ground, unable to deal with the emotions coursing through him. Still nothing could have prepared him for what came next.
Buffy stood up and knelt on the ground in front of him and placed her hands on either side of him on the bench.
He could barely breathe.
"Giles, look at me please."
Never able to deny her anything, he complied before even giving it conscious thought.
Her eyes were warm and filled with emotion.
Her voice was gentle as she asked, "How long have you been in love with me Giles?"
Oh dear lord, he thought.
His face suffused with colour and his hands clenched in panic as he began to fervently hope he'd wake from this dream turned nightmare. He looked at her earnest face and knew.
He was mortified and could again no longer bear to face her. He shot up so fast he almost knocked her over.
He rubbed his eyes, whilst clenching his glasses tightly in his fist.
"I care for you certainly, but I would never.that is to say.I.Buffy, I can't do this, please.I simply cannot."
He walked away from her quickly but her hand closed on his arm like a vise and turned him around to face her. Her eyes piercing through him. "How long Giles?"
His voice was desperate as he felt he was drowning. "Buffy, please, do not do this to me."
He turned away from her and leaned against the crypt wall desperately wishing he was elsewhere.
She released her hold on him and gently reached to take his glasses out of his clenched hand.
"You'll break them," she whispered.
He unclenched his hand and released them to her as he tried to quell his growing sense of dread.
After she slipped the glasses into her jacket pocket, she placed her hands flat on his back, making soothing small circles. "Giles, I have to know. Please, how long?"
Her touch was causing fiery sensations to flow across his awareness and he groaned inwardly. He could not lie to her about this, nor could he, it seemed continue to keep it from her.
His reaction was growing all too obvious.
He sagged further into the wall and dropped his head in defeat.
In a shaky, quiet voice he told her. "You were a vision that night. Something o-out of a dream. I.I was enraptured. At that moment I knew.I knew I d-desired you as deeply as I loved you." He took a ragged breath and laughed deprecatingly at himself. "I-I knew I was being foolish. What am I but one of the 'old and musty things'? Still, I was unable to prevent it. I never meant for you to know.I didn't want to burden you with.well with something you'd no need o-or de-desire to know. Oh Buffy, I love you as I have loved no other before you and there will be none after you." He let out a whooshing breath. "Since prom, Buffy. I have loved you since prom." He closed his eyes and waited, filled with apprehension and dread.
Buffy felt the tears prickling her eyes and her heart. She wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed herself to his strong broad back. She breathed in the scent of him. She could feel the rapid beat of his heart and the tension in his muscles and knew he was terrified of what her response would be.
"Since you really don't seem to want to look at me yet, I'll just say what I have to say this way okay?"
She felt him tense even more as he nodded his agreement and she hugged him tighter still.
She let her heart guide her, knowing it would somehow take her to him in the end.
"Oh Giles. How I've hurt you over the years. Still, no matter what I've done, you've always supported me and encouraged me. I never deserved what you gave me. Never."
He moved to protest, clasping her hands but she clung to him drawing his arms across his chest with her own.
"No. This is Buffy speaks and Giles listens time. First, I didn't want to go out with Peter in the first place. You did not cause me to miss out on anything. You never have. I say those things because, well because I've known you see. I've known for about a year that you love me. I can't explain it. One day it was just there. In your eyes. One day you couldn't hide it." She took a shaky breath, feeling tears again forming in her eyes. "And when I saw it.it scared me so much. I didn't deserve it. I felt so awful. It made me so angry th-that I just had to make you stop. I just couldn't let.couldn't let you l-love me."
She felt him go rigid and knew what he was thinking.
She shook her head and pressed her damp cheek to his back. "No. You always think the worst about yourself. I wish you could see the man I see. The man I tried so hard not to see. The man that I.the man that I l-love more than.I love you Rupert Giles. I love you so I can hardly breathe from it."
All the breath went out of him and his heart began a sharp staccato, sending shivers up and down the length of his body. His shaky legs could no longer hold him up and he sank down to the ground, taking Buffy with him. He pulled her around him as he leaned his back against the cool stone wall. Her face was wet with tears as she sat slumped in front of him.
He cautiously reached out and ran the backs of his fingers across her moist cheek. Her bright eyes turned up to meet his and he saw the depths of what she felt for him reflected there.
He had no words.
Buffy crawled up until she was between his spread legs and pulled herself to him. When she felt his arms tighten around her, she knew she was home. She buried her face deep into his chest as she clung to him.
"Giles, it was out of fear. Please understand that. I was so afraid to love you. S-so I tried to hurt you. I didn't realise what I was doing or why. I just knew it hurt."
He placed a soft kiss on the top of her head. His voice thick with emotion. "Hush now. It's alright my love. You're here, now, with me."
She tilted up her head and drew her arms around his neck, tangling her fingers in his soft hair. As their lips met she felt a fire begin deep within her. The kiss deepened and he ran his tongue across her warm lips, demanding entry which she willing gave. She opened up for him and he nipped at her tongue, running his along the insides of her mouth. She sucked on it hard, causing a deep groan and shudder from him.
He eased them down to the ground pulling her onto him as he began raining moist kissing and tingling bites along her jaw and neck. She arched into him, needing to feel him from the inside out. She felt the depth of his desire pressed hard against her bottom as she straddled him.
Without warning she was pulled abruptly away from him and whirled around to see a vamp in full game-face grinning at her.
"Why not play with me instead."
Buffy growled in frustration as she pulled a stake out of her jacket.
"You stupid sonofabitch." She nailed him with a roundhouse kick to the head.
"Do you have any idea how long I have been waiting to do what I was about to do with him?"
She grabbed his arm and twisted it up behind his back until she heard a satisfying 'crack' and drove her knee into his back causing another gratifying 'popping' sound.
"And you have the nerve to interrupt the most important moment in my life?" Another kick. "Not to mention the fact that I was really needing to release my seriously pent-up sexual frustration!"
She grabbed the almost unconscious vamp by the collar and pulled him up.
"You really chose the wrong time to piss me off." She drove the stake through his heart and was rewarded with a shower of dust.
She looked out into the approaching dark. "Damn! When did the sun go down?" She wondered aloud as she shook off the dust.
She stopped as she heard a soft chuckling coming from behind her. She whirled around to see Giles still stretched out on the ground, reclined on his elbow, shaking with mostly silent laughter.
Amusement twinkled in his green liquid eyes.
The sight caught her breath and sent her floating.
"You didn't need to torture him so. Simply staking him would have had the same effect."
He rose gracefully and reached out for her hand, his expression becoming serious. "We should have been more careful. I also did not notice it had become dark. You could have been hurt, Buffy."
He drew her to him, relishing the feel of her in his arms. After several minutes, he whispered, "D-did you mean what you said to him?"
Buffy pulled slightly back and looked at him in askance. "When you said this was the most." He dropped his gaze, not able to ask.
She reached up and placed a gentle kiss on his lips. "Yes. I meant it. I meant all of it. Only, this isn't the place to continue it."
At his startled look she tugged on his hand and they made their way out of the cemetery. They walked hand in hand, in companionable silence all the way to his flat.
When they arrived at his door he stilled, unsure of himself all over again.
Sensing the change in him, Buffy squeezed his hand and pulled his close to her. She nuzzled her way up his neck and nipped his earlobe before whispering, "Come on. Don't be afraid. I-I'm not going anywhere. God, Giles I want you so much it burns."
He moaned in response and crushed her to him. "Buffy," his voice raw with passion, "please, say it again. I-I need to hear it."
She smiled, knowing what he wanted. She cradled his face between her hands and drank in the passion in his enigmatic eyes.
"I love you Rupert Giles. I love you now and always. Let me show you just what the very scent of you does to me."
She pulled him down for a savage kiss as he fumbled with the lock, opened the door and manoeuvred them inside, slamming the door closed behind them.
In one swift movement he swept her off her feet and into his arms. She squealed with delight.
"Rupert! Put me down!" He halted his progress up the stairs as he heard her call him by his given name for the first time. He smiled and cocked an eyebrow in wonder.
She caressed his strong jaw, smiled richly and said simply, "It's your name. It's part of you. That's reason enough to love it."
His eyes misted slightly. "I am continually awed by you, Buffy."
She slapped his chest playfully as her own vision blurred. "Now you're gonna make me start."
He chuckled and continued up the stairs and into the bedroom.
He eased her down on the bed and leaned over to brush her hair out of her face. She grasped his shoulders and pulled him down to her. His kiss was full of passion and joy. He ran his hands down the sides of her body causing her to feel electrified. His hands trailed back up to her shoulders. He pulled her up and pushed her jacket of her shoulders and down her arms, depositing it on the floor.
She drew up on her knees in front of him and ever so slowly began to unbutton her blouse. By the time she had the last one undone, he was warm with anticipation. She eased it off her shoulders and threw it on the floor.
She grinned at him wickedly and licked her lips. "I wanna play Rupert."
And with a growl she threw him down and climbed slowly up his body. When she reached his waist she grabbed the hem of his sweater and brought it up with her. Her mouth met his heated skin and he moaned in pleasure. Her hands trailed across his flat muscled chest, relishing the masculine feel of coarse chest hair beneath her sensitised palms. She licked at his navel as she continued to push the fabric up and out of the way of her questing mouth.
He pulled her up, needing to touch her.
"Buffy," he whispered, as he buried his mouth in the valley between her firm yet soft peaks. He kissed his way across her bra clad flesh, moistening the fabric with his warm searing mouth. He reached behind her and unhooked, then removed the final hindrance to his objective.
Buffy was gasping for breath. No one had ever made her feel this. She was on fire, the dampness between her legs growing warmer with each heated kiss to her body. She straddled his thigh as he continued to assault her senses. She moved against him, desperate to end her delicious torture.
Giles could feel the tension in her body and knew she was close. The thought made him even harder than he already was. He continued to suckle at her breasts, giving her pink pebbled bud extra attention when she firmly held his head to her in supplication.
He reached down to cup her rear, drawing her closer until he felt he dampness on his thigh.
He threw his head back and groaned before she demanded his attention once again.
He drew one nipple deep into his mouth as his hand reach inside her pants stroking her core.
A low keening sound started in the back of her throat. She was shaking, her hips moving without her knowledge.
The keening sound began to reverberate.
Giles sucked on the flesh in his mouth hard and at the same time, thrust two fingers into her wet warmth.
Buffy bucked hard and her control broke.
"OOOOOH MMMMMY GGGGGGOD GIIIIIIIILESSSSS!"
Her orgasm ripped through her body in wave after wave of blinding explosions.
Giles pulled her down to him and gently rocked her trembling body as she tried to catch her breath. He kissed her cheek as he pushed her damp hair off her face and simply held her.
It was several hours later when she was awakened by the sun's rays streaming across her face. She didn't mind for once. She opened her eyes with a smile on her face. She felt his strong arms around her and had never in her life felt so secure and so loved.
Or so sated. A frown creased her forehead. Oh shit, she thought.
She rose up to see if he was awake and found him watching her. A warm smile touched his face as she turned to him. "Good morning, love."
"Morning Giles. Rupert." She sighed. "It'll take me a while, but I'll get it."
His chest shook with laughter as he stroked her arm and neck softly. "It's alright, Buffy. If you're not comfortable with 'Rupert', then 'Giles ' is perfectly alright with me."
She leaned over and gave him a peck on the nose. "Softy. Rupert it is. It's just gonna take time."
He sat up against the headboard and she moved again to the shelter of his embrace.
His voice hesitant. "Buffy, I.do you.regret.that is to say.no regrets? A-about last night I mean."
She sighed and pulled away and sat crossed legged, facing him, only now realising she was still bare from the waist up. She also realised that she didn't care. She was absolutely comfortable with him and knew right then that she was going to spend the rest of her life with him.
But right now, she had a problem.
"I am so sorry Gi-Rupert. God you must think I am just awful."
He brought his legs under him and knelt in front of her tilting her head as he asked in concern, "Buffy, love, whatever do you mean?"
She groaned in embarrassment. "You give me, absolutely, the most intense sexual experience in my life, bar none, and I go to sleep on you. I mean I have never had such an intense, I mean 'wow', and we didn't even finish getting undressed!" She fell back on the bed in disgust with herself.
Giles smiled as he moved over her and kissed her breast lovingly. His breath on her skin stoked the embers deep within her. He spoke throatily between kisses. "Buffy," a gentle kiss, "would you," his teeth nipped her hardening flesh, "like," his tongue trailed across her skin, "to get undressed now?"
Her breath came out in a hiss as she reached for him and flipped them over.
"Not this time, buster."
She pulled of his sweater and pushed him down. She reached down and ran her hand over his hard length. She cupped him and he thrust into her hand with a sharp intake of breath. She massaged him firmly through the fabric of his slacks as she marked him with her mouth. His nipples were hard and she loved the feel of them in her mouth.
His hips started to buck. He so needed to touch her, to kiss her but when he tried to move her she pulled away. She whispered against his damp heated skin. "I said 'no' Rupert."
His vision was blurring as she continued to stroke him harder and faster. "Bu-Buffy.I.," and dissolved into a moan.
Buffy stopped what she was doing and sat up. When she had his attention, she unzipped her pants and wiggled out of them, taking her panties with them, and tossed them on the floor.
His breath caught at the vision in front of him. "Oh Buffy. I didn't know anything could be so exquisitely beautiful as you." His reverence of her apparent in his rich voice.
She blushed and leaned over him for a kiss. "Oh Rupert, you always mange to put into words what I wish I could say. My Giles. You are so beautiful, my dearest Rupert. So beautiful."
She gave him another long wet kiss before she slid down his body, eager to see all his beauty. She unsnapped and unzipped his pants. He halted her with his hand on her wrist. "Giles?"
While he was still able to think somewhat clearly he managed to choke out, "Buffy, in the nightstand."
She looked at him uncomprehendingly for a moment before understanding set in. She moved his hand away and shook her head. "Unless there's something you need to tell me, it's okay." She stroked him once again and he clenched his teeth. He lifted his hips and she worked the fabric down his legs along with his boxers.
She gazed at him in awe. "God, but you are amazing."
And he was amazing. Hard and pulsating, longing for her. She ran her hands up the insides of his muscled thighs and he spread his long legs for her with a gasp of pleasure.
He almost couldn't breathe with he felt first her warm breath and then her moist sensual mouth engulf him with a firm, exquisite pressure.
He lost all thought, overcome by the crescendo building within his body.
"Unn, Buffy. Ahh, that's sooo uuhhh." His eyes closed and his head was thrashing side to side as his hands moved to tangle in her silky hair.
Buffy could feel him begin to tense and knew he was close.
The heat between her own legs had continued to grow until she felt she would explode. With one last nip to his base, she pulled herself up and positioned herself over his glistening erection.
She sank down onto him with a cry of passion which mingled with his own guttural cry of ecstasy. She began a steady rhythm as his hands gripped her hips and he met her every thrust. Each one a little more urgent than the last. She bent forward, her fingers clawing his chest hard enough to draw blood. He cried out in glorious pain and thrust into her hard and fast. Their pace was frenzied now, both becoming lost in their need for completion.
He couldn't last much longer, he was loosing control rapidly. He moved one hand from her hip and started to stroke her centre with short quick strokes.
Buffy threw her head back unable to keep from crying out loudly. "Yes! Giles! Yes! Rupert make me scream! Make me screeeeaaam!"
Her orgasm blinded her and she thrust down on him, her walls clenching, squeezing him with all she had.
His eyes rolled back in his head as he felt her orgasm pull his out with searing intensity. He thrust deeper into her growing moisture one last time with a primal cry, not able even to form words.
She fell across his slick heaving chest. Her hair plastered to her face and neck, her own breathing laboured. She could still feel him inside her, twitching, sending little jolts of pleasure throughout her body.
She kissed one of the claw marks on his chest hoping none of them stung him too much.
As if sensing her concern, he spoke haltingly. "It's.It's fine, love. Marks of your passion, I wear with honour."
She thumped him on the chest and rolled her eyes in mock disgust. "See, there you go again, taking my words."
They both laughed, before settling down to sleep.
After all, the rest of their lives together was beginning tomorrow.
