Summary: Buffy discovers her true feelings for Giles, tells him then everything goes to hell.
As Hank joined everyone in the living room he went to open the draperies. Joyce stopped him. "I have some guests who don't like exposure to the sun."
Joyce turned to William and asked him to have the others join them in the dining room where Willow and Tara had breakfast laid out. "We will eat this wonderful breakfast then we will discuss everything. Willow and Tara have spent a lot of time fixing this meal," with that she sat between Rupert and William, daring Hank to say anything. Everyone ate quietly except Angel and Spike, who Steve had wanted to talk to. They stood by the doorway to the living room, Spike sipping hot chocolate with tiny marshmallows. After everyone had finished the meal and taken the dishes to the kitchen, everyone gathered in the living room, some bringing chairs from the dining room. Everyone was almost situated when Hank fairly exploded.
"Joyce, I want to know just what has happened to our daughter, and what the hell was that man (pointing to Rupert) doing in Buffy's bedroom caressing her and telling her he 'loves her'. He's old enough to be her father, for Christ's sake!"
Joyce, sitting between William and Rupert on the couch, placed one hand on Rupert and the other on William before answering her ex-husband. "'That man' as you call him, has saved Buffy's life more times than I know. If it weren't for Rupert, she would have died a long time ago."
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"Rupert," Joyce said turning to him, "I think Hank should be told of Buffy's destiny and who better to do that than you."
"Destiny, what the hell are you talking about Joyce?" Hank asked, growing more impatient and angry.
"Joyce, that's Buffy's decision to make not ours. She wanted to protect you that is why she didn't tell you when you first moved here," Giles reminded her.
"What could Buffy protect her mother from?" Hank asked the man sitting by his ex wife.
"Sunnydale is not what it appears to be. There are dark forces here, unimaginable evil that Buffy wanted to protect you and her mother from, "Giles said to Buffy's dad.
"What the hell are you talking about? How did she know about such idiocy unless you put it into her head? I want you out of my daughter's life. She should be dating someone her own age like that young man I saw the doctor talking to when I got here?"
"You mean Riley?" William asked.
"Is that his name? He looked like a nice college age kid, just right for my Buffy." Hank told him.
"He is one of the stresses that lead to her collapse and memory loss. If I never see him again it will be too soon. Hank, you cannot tell anyone who to love. When you love someone as deeply as I loved Joyce all those years ago, you never forget. You regret the things you didn't do to keep that love, and if you are lucky, very lucky, you might find that love again." William told him as he turned to look at Joyce and take her hand. "I have been here only two days. I have seen Rupert and Riley both with Buffy. Riley caused Buffy pain and she could not get away from him fast enough. Rupert she loves. She doesn't remember much, but she remembers her feelings and emotions. The love I have seen between the two of them reminds me of what I felt for Joyce all those years ago."
"He is a pervert dating a girl young enough to be his daughter!" Hank told him.
"Just one minute 'ere. I'm no great fan of the Watcher and Slayer, but Rupert is no pervert. He has loved the Slayer a long time, and knows her a lot better than you do mate. I don't care if you do call her your daughter. You don't know her at all." Spike told him, getting into Hank's face with his game face coming out in his anger.
Hank backed away with fear in his eyes, trying to push the vampire away. "W..W..What's w..w..wrong w..w...with your f..f..face?" He stuttered out in terror.
"You got me riled. Sorry about that." Spike apologized, his face returning to it's human appearance.
"Rupert, I think you had better explain." Joyce told him.
"Joyce, I guess you are right," Rupert said as he stood up and took his glasses off and rubbed between his eyes, before continuing to speak, "In every generation there is one girl in all the world who is born with the strength to slay vampires. Hank," he said as placed his glasses back on and turned to a very irate father. "Buffy is that girl. She is the Chosen One, the Vampire Slayer. "Spike is a vampire who helps us on occasion. Buffy is the Slayer, and I am her Watcher. I became her Watcher when she came to Sunnydale. I took up training her where Merrick, her first Watcher stopped. Merrick gave his life for Buffy and I would do the same."
"If Buffy is suppose to kill vampires, why is one here?"
"I wanted to talk to Spike and to Angel about Buffy and their relationships with her." Steve told him.
"Angel?" Hank asked in a quiet voice. "Are you the man...Buffy dated?"
"Yes, I am."
"But why did he mention you with Spike?"
"Because I'm a vampire too and if you want to talk about age differences, I was 245 my last birthday. I, too, would give my life, make that my unlife, for Buffy. She is a wonderful and brave young woman who, I am proud to call a friend. I'm here to try and help her, not to blame her friends, her true family, for her condition." Angel told him as he turned and walked back to the doorway where he had been standing.
"Hank, do you remember when Henley burned?" Rupert asked him.
"Yes, Buffy was expelled after that. I was told that she started the fire, she had gotten in with the wrong crowd."
"She was fighting vampires and that was how she was able to kill the massive numbers that were attacking that night. I know how hard this is to believe, but it is the truth. Everyone in this room, with the exception of you, William and Steve, have helped Buffy at one time or another in her duties slaying vampires and other demons. Even Joyce has helped."
"Your telling me my daughter fights vampires and demons and you taught her how?"
"Yes, I have trained her since she came to Sunnydale."
"You put my daughter in danger, constantly and you let him?" he asked looking at Joyce. "I'm taking her back to LA and filing for complete custody. Neither of you will ever see her again."
"You're wrong there, Dad" Buffy said from the stairs, as she walked unsteadily toward Rupert, who met her halfway helping her to the couch where she sat in his lap. "I'm nineteen, an adult, and as such I make my own decisions. Giles never had to send me out. I had to go out to protect not only those I love but those who never knew that vampires and demons and other dark forces are real. It is my destiny, my duty. If not for Giles, I would have died in these duties long ago. He, Willow, Xander and the others have helped me to survive things you can't even imagine. I may be nineteen chronologically, but with everything I have seen and experienced, I feel like I'm ancient. I've seen too much death and destruction, more than you have ever seen or will see in your lifetime. Rupert makes me happy, he makes me feel safe and loved. With him, I can forget my destiny for a while. If you can't accept this, I will tell you the same thing I told mom. I will spend the rest of my life with Rupert and if you can't accept it, leave. Get out of my life if you can't accept the man I love." Buffy told the man she had called father for all of her life, before she turned to Rupert and held him as her tears started flowing. Rupert took her into his arms and carried her back up stairs to her bed.
When Rupert returned to the living room he continued telling Hank about Buffy and what she had experienced since she had come to Sunnydale. Hank felt like he had wandered into an evil Alice in Wonderland and hoped he would wake up, the sooner the better. None of this made sense. He sat quietly stunned as they told him the rest of Buffy's secret life story. The more he heard, the more amazed he was. How little he really knew this young woman he called his daughter. He had truly abandoned her at a time when she needed him the most. He had never thought how he hurt her when he would cancel their 'dates' and he always meant to make it up to her, but never did, too wrapped up in his own life to worry about hers. He had sworn to Joyce on Buffy's birth that he would love Buffy as his own child and he had let both of them down.
"Joyce," Hank interrupted Rupert, holding his hand up, "how do you feel about Rupert dating Buffy?"
"At first, I was very angry, and just added more stress to what Buffy was already feeling. I later realized that no one could love her more than Rupert and that they are perfect for each other. I finally realized that the age difference is just an obstacle, and not a major one, when I saw the love they have for each other."
"What led to her break down?"
"Hank, I think I can tell you more about that," Steve said. "I wanted to talk to you anyway. Why don't we go outside to talk while Rupert goes to check on Buffy?"
Checking his watch and seeing that they had talked for almost three hours after he had returned Buffy to her bed, Rupert headed upstairs to check on his love. She was thrashing in her bed and moaning his name.
"Giles, please forgive me, I didn't know, I'm sorry." She moaned the same thing again and again as he sat beside her gently shaking her shoulder to awaken her from her nightmare.
"Buffy, wake up. It's okay. I'm here," he reassured her.
Slowly she opened her eyes and when she saw him she started crying. He took her in his arms and held her gently as she cried. He smoothed her hair and whispered to her, "Buffy, I love you. I'm here and I'm not going anywhere."
She pulled out of his embrace slowly and looked into his eyes, "How can you say that when Angelus....."
"Shh," he told her as he put his fingers to her lips, "that's over, and I never blamed you for any of that. You were as much a victim as I was or Jenny was."
"You don't hate me?"
"My love, how could I ever hate you, you are my life. Buffy, I wouldn't want to live without you."
"Oh, I love you so much, I couldn't stand losing you."
"Luv, you won't lose me. Remember, we have been through this before, you are just remembering the bad parts, not the good. I haven't left you and I won't, not as long as you want me to stay."
"I want you to stay forever. I still don't remember everything, but I know that I wouldn't want to live without you. I love you, Rupert," she told him as she pulled his lips to hers.
The kiss started very gently and slowly grew very passionate. Holding her again in his arms and kissing her was the second most wonderful experience in his life. The first was when she had first told him of her feelings and they had first made love. He knew he should stop this before it went too far, being in her bedroom in her mother's home. He finally forced her from him looking into her eyes, seeing the love he thought he might never see again, "Buffy, my luv, if we don't stop someone could walk in on us and this is your mother's house. Joyce and I are getting on much better, but I wouldn't want her or your dad to walk in on us."
"Rupert, I want you so much, I don't remember when we made love, I don't remember ever having been with a man, and I want you to be the first." She put her hand on his mouth when he started to speak. "I know that I have had lovers, but I can't believe that I felt for them what I feel for you. You and mom are the only ones that I have any memory of. You are the man I want to spend the rest of my life with, the man I want to wake up to every morning, the man whose children I want to have," she told a very speechless man with love pouring out of her eyes. "If I never remember everything else, it will be all right, as long as I have you beside me."
"Buffy, I was so scared that I had lost you when you woke up not remembering me. We had just found each other and I don't know if I could have taken losing you again so soon."
"Ahem," Joyce interrupted them from the door. Rupert started moving from Buffy when he felt Joyce's hand on his shoulder. "Rupert, don't move, I heard part of your conversation, and I know just how much you and Buffy love each other. Stay her with her and I will keep everyone downstairs."
Rupert looked at Joyce with disbelief on his face.
"No, Rupert, I have not lost my mind, if I thought you would hurt Buffy, I would do everything in my power to keep you away from her. But, I have never seen a man so much in love and so giving of himself for the woman he loves. You are a very amazing man and Buffy is very lucky to have you. Now I have my own amazing man to get back to, so I will close the door as I leave."
"Mom," Buffy called as she started to leave the room. "Thanks."
"Buffy, I didn't want you to grow up, you grew up too fast, but you have found a very wonderful man who just happens to be very much in love with you. You better be good to him, don't lose him or take him for granted," Joyce told her with a hint of sadness in her voice.
"I don't plan to let him get very far away," she teased her mom as pulled Rupert into her arms for a passionate kiss as her mother closed the door firmly behind her. As the kiss deepened, Buffy unbuttoned Rupert's shirt and ran her fingers through his soft chest hair. She kissed her way down to his nipples and took the left one in her mouth and flicked it with her tongue as Rupert moaned her name.
"Buffy!" he moaned as he felt her hands on his belt. He felt as if he were in a dream, her hands were doing things he had only dreamed of. He felt her pulling his pants off and lifted himself to help her. Then he felt her tongue slowly stroke the underside of his penis. He felt he would burst. She stroked him with her wet hot tongue, slowly circling his penis as he grew harder and harder. He looked at her and she licked a drop from the tip as she slowly took him with her mouth. Her tongue slowly circled his tip, arousing him all the more. "Buffy, I don't know if I can hold back."
"Then don't," she told him as she pushed him down onto her bed and took his entire length in her mouth as he came, her name on his lips. She swallowed the evidence of his love for her as she slowly crawled up his body and again took possession of his mouth with a passionate kiss. He lay back slowly recovering from his shattering release. He tasted himself in her kiss and was again aroused. He began unbuttoning her top as their kiss deepened. He moved to suckle at her breasts as she had at his. Slowly arousing her even more. He stroked her stomach and slowly moved his hand to her nether lips. He found her as ready as he had been and slowly stroked her clit feeling her response vibrating through her entire body.
"Rupert, I want you inside me." she begged.
"Shh, luv, just be patient and I promise, it will be worth the wait," he told her as he slowly slid down her body and claimed her other lips with his. He pushed them apart and sucked her clit as she almost came off the bed with her arousal. "Slowly luv, trust me"
"Not so slow, Rupert, I need you now!"
Slowly, ever so slowly, he sent his tongue into her waiting depths, tasting her true essence. He moved his tongue slowly in and out of her center, feeling how close she was he moved to her face and kissed her again. Her hand reached out encircling him, finding him as hard as he had been earlier.
"Rupert, I need you inside me, now!" she again begged.
He kissed her passionately and positioned himself to slowly enter her. She wrapped her legs around his waist and pulled him into her quickly, his entire length being pulled into her waiting moist depths. Both moaned at the feeling of completion. They met thrust for thrust, each becoming part of the other, one whole, feeling her close, he moved his hand between them and stroked her clit as they came together in the most shattering orgasm he had ever experienced. He slid to one side, holding her to him, still inside her. It was several minutes before either could say anything. Buffy looked into his eyes, "Will it be like that every time?" she asked the wonder in her voice very clear.
"Luv, I will do my best to make every time as special as this." he promised her pulling her even closer.
"I love you, Rupert."
"And I love you, Buffy."
They had been holding each other for a while, when Buffy's stomach growled.
"I think we need to get dressed and get you something to eat. I don't know how long your mother can keep everyone happy with only one bathroom downstairs."
"I guess you are right. Rupert, can I move in with you?"
"Buffy that's what we were planning to do before this happened."
"So, it's okay with you?" she asked shyly.
"Very okay," he told her as he reached for their clothes.

Once they were dressed they went downstairs to the kitchen where Willow and Tara were getting everything ready to cook hamburgers outside on the grill. Buffy offered to help and was put to work finishing the salad, Rupert helped her, not wanting to be too far away from her.
Willow and Tara looked at them, guessing what had been happening upstairs when Joyce had forbidden anyone to go upstairs and disturb them. Willow took Tara's hand squeezed it looking into her lover's eyes.
"I'm glad to see them together again," Willow told her softly.
"I am too. He loves her so much," Tara whispered back to her.
"All right, I heard that," Buffy told them. "Rupert, how did I hear that?"
"That's your slayer hearing." Willow told her before he could say anything.
Buffy looked at Willow and noticed they were holding hands. She remembered talking with them and waiting for Rupert to perform. She had not been very understanding of their relationship when it had started and she had apologized to them. "I remember talking to you before Rupert started singing, about your relationship. Willow, I want you and Tara to be as happy as I am with Rupert," she told them as she crossed the room to hug both of them.
Rupert watched in silence, glad that Buffy was remembering that night and her friends. At this rate, she would have her memories back before too long and they could start their life together. He was so proud of her and how she was handling the situation. She had matured so much over the last four years. She might only be 19 physically, but she was much older mentally. He was still amazed at their love and felt it would stay that way for the rest of their lives.
Joyce came in with William to get the hamburgers to put on the grill and saw that Buffy and Rupert had come downstairs. "Alright you two, outside. Buffy you need some sunshine. So scoot, both of you," she told the couple as she playfully swatted at them to get them to leave the preparation to the rest of them. She wanted them to be together and hoped it would help Buffy to remember more of her old life.
"She'll be fine Joyce." William told her. "Rupert will make sure of that. He loves her more than his own life." Joyce looked at him "I know, because that is how I feel about you. I do truly regret all the years we spent apart."
"Oh William," she whispered to him, "I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't been at my door the other night."
"But I was, so let's not play that game. I love you Joyce and I want to be with you, now and always."
"Ms. Summers, here are the hamburgers to put on the grill." Tara said as she handed the platter to Joyce.
"Thanks, Tara, you and Willow have been lifesavers throughout all of this. I don't know how we'll ever repay your kindness"
"Ms. Summers, I was glad to help, I'm just sorry that Buffy has had such a hard time."
"Tara, she's remembering more and more each day. I'm sure that her memory will return soon." William told the girls as he took the platter from Joyce.
**********
Later that afternoon, Buffy caught her mother alone. She had been watching her and William all afternoon and wondered why her mom was holding back. Buffy knew that her mom loved William, she sensed it and had seen the looks between the two of them, the same looks she shared with Rupert.
"Mom, do you love William?" Buffy asked quietly, coming up beside her mother and sitting by her on the bench.
"Yes, Buffy, I do."
"Then why aren't you with him?"
"I..we're waiting for you to get better."
"Mom, I'm better, in case you didn't notice." Buffy teased her.
"But you still don't have...."
"Mom, I may never get all my memories back and if I never do, it's ok. I have remembered everything I need to. You, Dad, a man I love who loves me back, I know my real father and I am remembering my friends. I'll make new memories."
"But, Buffy..."
"No, 'But, Buffy' to me. You go get William and talk to him. He loves you. He told me he did."
"I know. He's asked me to marry him." Joyce told her not quite knowing how Buffy would take this news.
"You told him 'yes', I hope?"
"No, we decided to wait until you were well, I couldn't think of myself with you so ill. I had hurt you so badly. I'm sorry, Buffy. Can you forgive me?" she asked her daughter with tears in her eyes.
"Mom, of course I forgive you. You just want the best for me and wanted to protect me from and I quote 'that dirty old man'. You were just being a mom. But, I'm fine now. Go to him," she told her as she pushed her in William's direction.
Buffy joined Rupert and he handed her a quarterstaff telling her "We'll start with something basic and see what you remember."
Buffy remembered. All too soon, Rupert was on the ground looking up at the woman he loved. They continued to train for about thirty minutes before he stopped them, not wanting Buffy to overdo. When Giles stopped the training by taking her quarterstaff, her memories started rushing back to her and she dropped to her knees, rubbing her face with her hands. She was very disoriented and when she came to herself, she was sitting on the living room couch in Rupert's lap. Steve was there taking her blood pressure. Seeing her eyes flutter open he looked at her.
"Buffy, what have you remembered?"
"Everything, I think, Steve. It was like a door was forced open and it all poured out."
"How do you feel?"
"I feel a little woozie, but okay."
"I suggest that you get a good night's sleep. In the morning, call me. There are a few last tests I would like to run, but I think you'll be fine."
Seeing everyone except her mom and William, she looked at Rupert, a questions in her eyes.
"Luv, we have been told not to venture upstairs and to use the facilities down here," he told her.
"Oh. Rupert, can we go home?"
"Of course, luv, lets send everyone home and leave the house to William and Joyce."
It was not long before everyone had left except for Hank, who was giving Steve a ride to his hotel before heading back to L. A.
"Buffy, can I talk to you?" he asked the young woman he had raised as his daughter.
"Sure dad."
"Buffy, I know that you know that I am not your dad."
"You are my dad and I love you. William is my father and I don't know him very well, yet, but you will always be my dad!" she told him as she hugged him.
"Oh Buffy, I'm so sorry I wasn't there for you when you needed me."
"You are here now, that's what matters," she told him as she walked him to his car. "Dad, I'll come up and see you in a couple of weeks and we can talk more. Right now, I'm tired and want to head home." Seeing the puzzled expression on his face, she added, "to Rupert's."
"Honey, do you really love him?"
"Daddy, he is the other half of my soul. I can't image living without him and he feels the same."
Hank looked at the young woman before him and wondered when she had grown up. He regretted the time he had not spent with her, she had become a very confident, strong woman when he was not looking.
"Well, I guess we'd better be going, I'll call you later," he told her as he hugged and kissed her on the forehead as he got into his car.
"Bye Dad," she waved to him as he backed out of the driveway and Rupert came up behind her.
"Luv, are you ready to go home?"
Home, what a wonderful word. Home to begin their life together.
"Yes"
