"It was really blue, not the
kind-of-bluish-but-actually-grey, no it was totally disgustingly
bl- What's up there?"
Buffy and Willow were on their way to class when they noticed a
crowd standing near their dorm. People were obviously looking at
something. Or, since this was Sunnydale, it was more likely that
they were looking at someone.
Buffy and Willow made their way through the crowd. A few people
who knew her started whispering and pointing, but Buffy ignored
them. Preparing herself for the remains of a human or a demon she
dragged Willow with her.
But what she saw when people stepped back to let her see what had
caused the ruckus was neither human nor demon. Willow's eyes grew
huge and her mouth formed an O, although no sound escaped it.
Buffy just stared.
A fellow student came up grinning.
"Seems you have an admirer. Do you know this 'Giles' or is
this just his secret nickname?"
Buffy spun around.
"I-I have no idea what you're talking about. This could be
for any Buffy!" She looked at the letters in the heart once
more and stormed off. The crowd parted for her like the water for
Moses.
Willow smiled uneasily and followed her.
When they were out of sight, Willow spoke.
"So?"
"So what?"
"Eh... 'Giles loves Buffy'... you have nothing to say about
it?!"
"What should I say?! I'm gonna beat up Xander really bad for
this one!"
Willow looked confused, although Buffy couldn't see that since
she kept walking (although it was only marginally not running)
looking straight ahead of her.
"Xander? You think *he* did this?"
"I don't know anyone else nearly immature enough to pull
such a stunt."
"You don't think it was Giles?"
Buffy stopped and turned. Willow ran right into her.
"Ouch!"
"Are you nuts?! I don't want Giles to *ever* find out."
"But..."
Buffy looked at her so sternly that Willow took a step back.
"I'm not gonna tell him."
"Good for you."
"But why don't you want to tell him, if you don't think he
did it?"
"God, you know Giles! He'd have a heart attack, and after
his recovery he'd die of embarrassment. I don't think he could
ever look at me again without blushing and stuttering."
"Well, it would be cute."
Buffy glared at her.
"Okay, but why would Xander do something like that?"
"I don't know, but I'll ask him before I beat him up."
--------------------------
"Just tell me why!"
"Hey, leave my boyfriend alone! I'm the only one who's
allowed to hurt him."
"Anya, back off. Your boyfriend has some explaining to do.
So?"
"Uh dnlg ing uh nerdz."
"What?"
"Let go off his neck."
"What?"
"I didn't think you'd notice."
"You painted it in one-foot-high-letters! The whole damn
college knows!"
"Huh?!?"
"Painted what?"
"Ask your boyfriend."
"Xander?"
"I have no idea what she's talking about."
Buffy applied some pressure to his throat.
"Really! I swear!"
She softened her grip.
"Then what the hell did you think I wouldn't notice?"
"Uh..."
Buffy threatened again.
"I stole one of your bras."
"You did what?!"
Buffy and Anya cried in unison.
Buffy pulled her hand away disgusted.
But Anya stepped right in.
"Is my underwear not good enough for you?"
"Buffy help me."
"Why should I?"
"What was that painting?"
"Gotta go."
Anya turned around, suddenly interested.
She and Xander stopped Buffy from walking out.
"Buff, talk."
"You should be glad that I don't beat you up for that bra
thing. Ugh."
"Hey, you wouldn't even have noticed."
Buffy just glared at him.
"So talk. Or do you want me to ask Willow?"
"She promised not to tell anyone. Wait no, she promised not
to tell Giles. Damn."
"Tell Giles what?"
"Someone painted 'Giles loves Buffy' on our dorm."
"Whoa, G-man! Wait, you and Giles are... Ewwwww."
"Giles doesn't know about this! And I don't want him to
know."
"Wait a moment. You storm in and threaten my boyfriend and
you didn't even ask if your lovesick watcher did it
himself."
"Giles isn't lovesick! And I don't have to ask him. He'd
never do anything like this."
"Then who would?"
"I have no idea, but I intend to find out. And *you* don't
do anything!"
"Never."
--------------------------
"Hurry up, Giles."
"I just don't know why you can't even tell me what's wrong
with Buffy."
"It was a vampire."
"It's noon!"
"I mean a demon. Why don't you just come?"
He hurried after Xander towards the dorm, where Anya was waiting
for them.
"Where is she?"
"I don't know, but look. Is that a demon?"
Giles looked in the direction that Anya had pointed.
"Urh..."
"I think he's seen it."
"And he seems a 'little' surprised. I guess we can rule him
out. 'kay Giles, that was all we wanted to know, you can close
your mouth now. Giles?"
"I think he's in shock."
Anya lifted her hand and waved it in front of Giles' face, but he
didn't even blink.
"What did you do to him?"
"*I*? This was your idea."
"I just wanted to help Buffy."
"She didn't want him to find out."
"But she wanted to know who did it. Now we know for sure it
wasn't him. And when he gets out of his coma, we could ask him.
Maybe he has and idea. He's the guy who finds stuff out."
"How hard can it be anyway? He's old and has no friends. We
just have to check the five people in Sunnydale who know
him."
"I wonder if Buffy asked Willow."
"Why would Willow do this? It's crazy and disgusting."
"But it's also romantic in a weird and really sick way.
Maybe Willow wants to set them up."
"But Buffy's with that stupid commando."
"Exactly. Eh, Giles, do you think you can move?"
"Orl..."
"Let's pretend that meant yes."
Supporting Giles on both sides they walked him into the dorm to
Buffy and Willow's room.
--------------------------
"Hmm, that's nice."
"Only the best for you."
Willow and Tara were in smoochie heaven when a knock on the door
interrupted them. They jumped apart.
"Will? Could you let us in. Giles is... well he's..."
Willow and Tara composed themselves and Willow opened the door.
"God, what happend? A demon?"
"No."
"A spell?"
"No."
"Riley?"
"Will! He saw it."
"What?"
"Giles loves Buffy."
"Oh that. Giles are you okay?"
"Hur..."
"He's been like that since he saw it."
"Who are you?"
"I'm Tara. And you are Xander and Anya. And you are the
Giles that loves Buffy?"
"hiuh?"
"I hope this isn't permanent."
"Do you want a glass of water?"
"Hlr."
"Okay."
She went to get it and Xander and Anya sat on Buffy's bed with
Giles between them.
Tara sat on Willow's bed and there was a long awkward silence.
Then Anya whispered behind Giles' head to Xander.
"You wanted to ask Willow if she did it!"
"I will, I will. If she has anything to do with this I'll
get it out of her."
Willow came back and handed Giles the glass of water.
When he didn't move she took his hand an put the glass in it.
Xander helped him to take a sip.
He patted Giles, when the watcher managed to drink alone.
"So Will, you don't happen to be the one who did this
declaration of love thing?"
Giles looked up, but didn't drop the glass or say anything.
"No."
"O-kay. Then who did this? Who knows Giles and Buffy and
would think this is funny. Or romantic. Or something that could
actually explain it."
"Maybe it wasn't a joke."
"Will, judging from G-man's reaction I think we can safely
assume he didn't do it."
Giles grumbled something.
"I was thinking more in the lines of being mean, revenge,
not able to kill anymore and thinking of other ways to cause
chaos."
"I thought they locked Ethan up?"
"Spike!"
"Spike? No way. I mean I really can't see Spike standing
next to the dorm with a brush and a bucket of paint."
"But who else do we even know?!"
--------------------------
"Riley!"
"Hi Buffy."
"What are you doing here?"
"I wanted to pick you up. Did you forget that w-"
"Of course not. I just... nothing really."
"So, would you like to tell me about Giles?"
"Giles? You saw it."
"It's kind of hard to overlook. I had no idea that he felt
that way."
"He doesn't!"
"But..."
"That was just a mean little joke."
"Oh. Who did it?"
"I have no idea."
She began walking and Riley followed after a few seconds of not
quite getting it.
--------------------------
"Hey Will, I- what are all of you doing here? Hey
Giles."
"Hrh."
"Okay, who told him?"
Xander and Anya found an immediate interest in the ground.
"I told you not to!"
She took a step towards them when Xander afraid of a beating he
deserved quickly blurted out.
"Spike!"
"Spike what?"
"I'm sure it was him."
Willow, Tara and Anya rolled their eyes.
"May-maybe he's right."
They all stared at Giles.
"You can speak again. Way to go G-man."
Xander patted him on the back, but recoiled after receiving a
patented Giles glare.
"I see you feel better."
"Let's go."
--------------------------
"Look who's here, the whole bloody gang, even the slayer's
boy of the month."
"Shut up, Spike. You can be glad if I don't stake you right
away."
"I didn't do anything. You know bloody well that I can't no
matter how much I want to."
"You can't paint?"
"What?!"
"Your message on my dorm."
"What the hell are you talking about. I didn't write no
bloody message. What did it say? 'Die, Slayer, Die'?"
"Giles loves Buffy."
Spike laughed.
"Finally told her, huh? And written on her dorm, how
romantic, but I suppose it's better than wanking thinking about
her."
"I do not!"
"Hey, I lived with you, remember? And you can hear quite
well if you put an ear on the door."
"You did what?!"
He grabbed Spike and held him to the wall.
"Easy watcher. 't is not my fault, that you're in love with
her."
"You're in love with Buffy?"
Willow beamed at the prospect of romance between her friends.
"Of course he is. Any fool could see that without
eavesdropping."
"I didn't see it."
Spike just looked at Xander.
"Hey!"
"Buffy, you said he didn't love you."
"Maybe we should leave Buffy and Giles alone."
Willow looked pointedly at Riley, who still expected an answer
from his girl-friend.
"I'm not going anywhere until she answers me."
"I didn't... and why do we believe Spike anyway. He could
just have made that up, right Giles? Giles?!"
Willow beamed.
"You're in love with her, right?"
"Come on G-man, let it out."
"I..."
They all looked at him leaning forward.
"I'm in love with Buffy."
Willow and Xander high-fived.
"You are what?"
"I'm in love with you."
They gazed at each other causing Willow to beam even more if that
was possible, until Riley interrupted.
"So you didn't know, Buffy?"
"Riley, why don't you take a walk, like home to Iowa?"
"Buffy is my girl-friend."
"I wonder how long..."
"Buffy? Buffy!"
"What?"
She tore her gaze from Giles.
"Did you say something?"
"You're still my girl-friend aren't you?"
"Your girl-friend?"
She looked at Riley then at Giles.
"Kiss him!" Willow whispered in her ear. Buffy stepped
closer to Giles.
"Buf-"
Xander clasped his hand over Riley's mouth and with the help of
Willow, Anya, Tara and even Spike they removed him forcibly from
Spike's home. Giles and Buffy were kissing in the meanwhile.
When they stopped they smiled at each other.
"Giles loves Buffy."
"Buffy loves Giles?"
"I think she does."
She kissed him again.
"Actually I'm sure she does."
And while they started kissing again, two figures outside ran
away giggling.
"Shouldn't we have waited until they come out?"
"Oh please. We saw everyone come out except for them. What
do you think they're doing in there? Training?"
"I suppose not. I'm glad we could finally do something for
them."
"I just hope Angel won't be too mad that we used this trip
from LA to get Buffy and Giles together."
"You did what?"
"Oh, hi Angel."
"Buffy and Giles...?"
"Well..."
"I suppose it was just a matter of time."
